Data Quality
We have now introduced a series of data quality meetings across NHS Boards to gain a clear understanding of how each board collects and submits A&E data and to look at specific areas such as completeness of data fields and the quality of data items collected.
Examples of the quality improvements to date include:
- Submission of additional data items (already recorded on the A&E IT system) in the month submission to ISD e.g. Discharge Type
- Clarification of definitions relating to A&E dataset e.g. Referral Source
- Local 'Rapid Improvement Session' for A&E staff - delivered by ISD (see below)
In addition to the bi-annual meetings that will take place within each NHS board, ISD have introduced monthly reports to monitor the data quality and completeness and these will be used to report back to NHS Boards for action where issues arise.
Rapid Improvement Session, ISD have and are planning to deliver more of these across the departments in Scotland. The team deliver a 1-2 hour session with local A&E staff covering data that are used for national purposes e.g. the definitions, why it's collected, what it's used for.
