Emergency Department Activity

NHS National Services Scotland ISD Scotland & NHS National Services Scotland

When do patients attend Emergency Departments?

There were 1.3 million attendances at the 30 Emergency Departments in Scotland between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016. Information about when Emergency Departments experience peak arrival times facilitates effective planning and improves the quality of care offered to patients across Scotland.

The below video provides an overview of Emergency Care Activity across Scotland, examining the patterns of attendance by time and day of arrival.

For a detailed evaluation of the seasonal, daily and weekly patterns of attendances and Emergency Departments please see the official statistics publication report.
