Outpatients
The Costs Book collects information on 4 types of outpatient clinics.
Reports are available at Hospital level (e.g. R043) or NHS Board level (e.g. R043X). These can be accessed from the links below or via Specialty Costs page.
Outpatient Consultant clinics - a hospital consultant has responsibility. These clinics are mainly for consultation or very minor procedures, but may include patients who receive more complex (and expensive) treatments.

Outpatient Treatment clinics - these are consultant-led clinics at which patients receive treatments or procedures rather than simple consultations. Fewer patients can be seen at this type of clinic so it is reported separately to distinguish costs from the less expensive consultation clinics. The number of cases is limited to a specific basket of procedures [26kb]. Note that not all hospitals can separately identify these patients so may include them in the consultant clinic report.

Outpatient Nurse Led clinics - these clinics are managed by nurses (although, in some instances, a consultant may be in overall charge). Again, not all hospitals can separately cost this activity so may have included the expenditure elsewhere such as in the consultant clinic report.

Outpatient AHP clinics - these clinics are run by AHPs. They differ from the other clinics in that they are not specialty-specific but are reported by profession or department.
