Accessing SPARRA data

NHS National Services Scotland ISD Scotland & NHS National Services Scotland

Access to SPARRA Data

Authorised staff in NHS boards, Community Health & Care Partnerships (CHCPs) or GP practices can obtain access to patient listings using SPARRA Online, a secure web tool.

How does it work?

Each month, following routine production of SPARRA scores, the patient lists are uploaded into the SPARRA datamart. Authorised staff can then access the patient lists relevant to their locality through Business Objects. Security settings built into the user name and password determine exactly what level of data can be seen: NHS board, CHCP, single / multiple GP practice(s).

What does it look like?

Some screen shots of a sample patient listing for a GP Practice can be found here: Sample GP Practice Report Download PDF file [107kb]

How do I get access to SPARRA Online?

To access SPARRA, register online with the User Access System (UAS) and choose the SPARRA datamart. Requests are sent to your Caldicott guardian or practice GP authoriser for approval.
A user guide is available.

Please note that since the end of May 2016, you are now required to select either the non-confidential access option or the confidential access option. The confidential access option will allow you (if authorised) to view patient identifiers such as patient name.
If you are a GP or if you are authorised to forward SPARRA data to a GP, you should select 'confidential access' because the GP needs to view patient names.
If you have no reason to view patient names or other personal identifiers, you must select the non-confidential access option. Patient identifiers are excluded from SPARRA data if you select the non-confidential access option.

If you have any problems accessing SPARRA please contact the ISD Datamarts Product Support helpdesk:
