Cardiac Rehabilitation

Please note that data is not being currently collected by ISD on cardiac rehabilitation. The commentary on this page refers to previous publications.

Cardiac rehabilitation is a service which supports patients with heart disease, in partnership with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals. Through this, patients are encouraged and supported to achieve and maintain optimal health and well-being.

Cardiac rehabilitation is offered to patients who suffer from heart disease. For this publication, the number of people who are eligible for cardiac rehabilitation is an estimate and is based on the number of people who have been admitted to hospital following a heart attack, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), angioplasty, valve surgery, heart failure or unstable angina.

The first report looking at referrals to cardiac rehabilitation, multi-disciplinary team interventions and completion of cardiac rehabilitation programmes for initiating events in the 6 months from April to September 2010 was published in March 2012. The report for initiating events for the full year April 2010 to March 2011 was published in May 2012, along with data for the 6 months from October 2010 to March 2011.
