Hospital Activity

Information on hospital activity is drawn from a database of inpatient and day case discharge summaries maintained by ISD (outpatient activity not included). A discharge summary is completed when a patient leaves hospital or transfers within or between hospitals and these capture basic clinical information about the diagnoses and operations that patients had.

The information in this section shows the number of hospital discharges with a specific heart disease condition. Note that one person can have more than one discharge from hospital within a given time period. Data on discharges provides an indication of hospital usage for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in an inpatient or day case setting.
