Introduction
Inpatient and Day case (SMR01) records one primary diagnosis and up to 5 secondary diagnoses.
Diagnosis data within this page is based on the main diagnosis recorded on an inpatient or day case episode.
The information within this page is currently classed as National Statistics. Currently the statistics are produced in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, available on the UK Statistics Authority website.
An episode is generated when a patient is discharged from hospital but also when a patient is transferred between hospitals, significant facilities, specialties or to the care of a different consultant.
Details on the clinical coding used to record diagnosis can be found in the following Data Sources and Clinical Coding document
.
The information linked below has been updated to include the most recent available data.
