National Clinical Dataset Development Programme (NCDDP)
The National Clinical Dataset Development Programme (NCDDP) was established in 2003 by the Chief Medical Officer to support clinicians developing national clinical data standards. The NCDDP and the clinical data standards it develops are an essential element of the move towards the Electronic Health Record, a central aim of the National eHealth Strategy.
Our vision is "to support clinicians to develop sets of interoperable national data standards to facilitate the implementation of integrated care records across NHS Scotland."
NCDDP is at the heart of NHSScotland's eHealth programme: "All sectors will progressively use national data standards with data definitions, data format and coding structures to provide a common language across health and social care." NHSScotland eHealth Strategy: eHealth Aims and Framework, (Feb 2007). Implementation of national clinical data standards in all substantive new IT systems was mandated by The (then) Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD) in October 2005 HDL (2005) 46.
NCDDP Standards are currently implemented in IT systems such as the national diabetes system SCI-DC with many more underway.
Clinical Data Standards available for consultation (and their response forms) until 22nd October are:
