Hospital Records Data Monitoring
The Data Monitoring Service provides one of the ISD Data Intelligence Group (DIG) Core Business functions; monitoring the collection, processing, validation and quality control of NHSScotland's national datasets.
What do we do?
The Data Monitoring Services main objective is ensuring NHS Boards and the Independent Sector submit the major patient-based Scottish Morbidity Record (SMR) datasets, taking account of:
- Completeness of data
- Timeliness of data submissions in line with Scottish Government targets
- Quality of data
Who do we work with?
The Data Monitoring Team (DMT) work closely with:
- NHS Hospitals
- NHS Boards
- Special Boards
- Independent Sector organisations
- Scottish Government
- Other Public Sector organisations
- Analysts and other data users
- Hospital System Suppliers
Services provided
For data providers the Data Monitoring Team:
- Provides expertise in solving data submission problems and queries
- Advises on SMR data validation issues
- Offer a service to support data providers and hospital system suppliers in meeting national data submission requirements
For data users the Data Monitoring Team:
- Reports on current data completeness and timeliness
- Provides information on submission problems
- Investigates data queries and inconsistencies
- Arranges for data amendments to national databases
