Wisdom National Pilot Begins
Wisdom is an information tool which has been designed to support comparative analysis and benchmarking across NHSScotland by providing a single point of entry to a range of national indicators for health and care. Wisdom has been developed by SHIS in partnership with information, planning and performance leads from across NHSScotland. Wisdom is being made available to all NHSScotland Boards on a pilot basis from September 2011. Feedback from this pilot will inform further development of Wisdom. More information about Wisdom is available here. [Added 7 September 2011]
A&E Data Mart
The Unscheduled Care Information Programme has recently completed the A&E datamart training. This has involved travelling to all NHS boards and training Information Analysts and some interested Emergency Medicine Consultants. Those that have been trained now understand the data available to them and as a minimum can access and refresh standard reports, users with a higher level of access can create and run their own reports. Approximately 40 staff across Scotland have been trained and we hope that with the roll out of standard management reports there will be a greater comparability between Unscheduled Care information in future. Accident and Emergency (A&E) Data Mart launched
The Accident and Emergency (A&E) data mart contains data from June 2007 to the present day on patient attendances at Emergency Departments, Minor Injuries Units and community hospital A&E's across NHS Scotland. The A&E data mart gives authorised users access to data including demographic information, attendances, waiting times and patient flow for their residents and their residents treated elsewhere in NHSScotland. The data mart hold two levels of information, episodic patient level (only available for A&E departments with the IT capacity to submit patient level data to ISD) and aggregate monthly data (this contains total attendances and compliance with the four hour wait standard).
The A&E data mart allows users to create bespoke reports as well as run the standard reports created by ISD's Unscheduled Care Team. To find out more about accessing the A&E data mart or to discuss training requirements please telephone the SHIS helpline on 0131 275 7050 or e-mail the team at nss.isdaeshis@nhs.net. Outpatients (SMR00) now available
One of the main messages from the rollout of the ACaDMe data mart to NHS Boards was that users would like to have online access to outpatient (SMR00) data. We would therefore like to announce that the Outpatients (SMR00) data mart is now available. The SHIS Training and Support team are in discussion with NHS Board lead contacts to find out who will require access and training to this new data mart. You can call our helpline on 0131 275 7050 or e-mail nss.isdoutpatients@nhs.net for more information.
Information about updates to the Outpatients (SMR00) data mart will be posted via the ACaDMe webpages. [Added 21 July 2010]
Navigator and Medical Record Linkage (MRL) web pages now live
There are a couple of recent additions to the SHIS webpages - Navigator and Medical Record Linkage (MRL).
Navigator is a web-based information service designed to meet the needs of key healthcare staff in NHS Boards, Community Health Partnerships (CHPs) and hospitals. Navigator provides user-friendly access to a broad range of comparative information to aid the review, monitoring and planning of services and support quality improvement.
Medical Record Linkage (MRL) provide a specialist linkage service to clinical and academic staff and their researchers using direct and probability matching techniques to link nationally held health data to other datasets.
You can contact the teams direct for further information on each of these areas of work. [Added 21 July 2010]
New website for ACaDMe
ACaDMe now has its own section of the ISD website where you can find the latest on updates to the data mart, completeness data and information on how to access and use the data mart. [Added 6 July 2010]
National Comparative
'National Comparative' is a brand new development which will form part of the SHIS programme of work. The objective is to build a new 'view' of the ACaDMe data mart (within the data warehouse) which allows authorised Board level users to compare results against other Boards data. This will be used for service planning and to support performance management at Board, hospital and specialty levels. Information governance and training materials are being developed to support these data sharing initiatives. [Added 24 May 2010]
Completeness data mart in development
ISD's Data Intelligence Group are leading development of an SMR Completeness data mart which will initially contain information on completeness for acute inpatient and daycase activity (SMR01), cancer (SMR06), mental health (SMR04) and deaths (GRO). As more and more data marts become available through SHIS, their completeness information will be added to this data mart. The SMR completeness data mart forms part of a wider project to develop a meta data resource. For further information please contact Elaine Strange at elaine.strange@nhs.net [Added 18 February 2010]
