Medical Record Linkage

The Medical Record Linkage (MRL) team provide a specialist linkage service to clinical and academic staff and their researchers using direct and probability matching techniques to link nationally held health data to other datasets. These linked datasets are used to inform developments in health and care, improve quality of care and support health research.

As well as providing expert analyses of linked data, the MRL team also provide advice on linkages and collaborate with researchers to produce papers on a range of health issues. Recent linkage projects include:

  • Linking police road traffic accident information to hospital inpatient data to examine the impact of road safety cameras.
  • Linking neonatal information to cancer registrations to examine the risk of skin cancer after phototherapy for neonatal jaundice.

If you would like to find out more about MRL please contact the team on: NSS.IsdMedicalRecordLinkage@nhs.net.
