SHIS-R

Scottish Health Information Service for Research (SHIS-R)

The Scottish Health Information Service for Research (SHIS-R) is one of the core activities within the Scottish Health Informatics Programme (SHIP). SHIP is an ambitious, interdisciplinary, multi-institutional research programme for research using electronic patient records. More information on SHIP can be found on their website www.scot-ship.ac.uk.

SHIS-R contribution to SHIP research programme

SHIS-R contribution to SHIP is to provision datasets for research and to further develop the goverance surrounding use of information. SHIS-R will provide a portal for knowledge about the availability of appropriate health related data; meta data on their suitability for specific research purposes; and the procedures required to gain access to and use such data. It will also provide a single interface for linkage with external 'third party' research dataset. This will provide a sustainable resource for all nationally collected routine datasets held by NHSScotland, making them available to researchers throughout the UK.
