Wisdom

Wisdom is an information portal which has been designed to support comparative analysis and benchmarking across NHSScotland by providing a single point of entry to a range of national indicators for health and care. Wisdom has been developed by the Scottish Health Information Service (SHIS) in partnership with information, planning and performance leads from across NHSScotland.  Wisdom is being made available to all NHSScotland Boards on a pilot basis from September 2011. Feedback from this pilot will inform further development of Wisdom.

Indicators

The indicators that will be available through Wisdom are sourced from existing NHSScotland and Scottish Government tools and systems including Better Quality, Better Value (BQBV), the Mental Health Benchmarking, Navigator and HEAT. A list of all the indicators available through Wisdom is provided in the following document.

Caldicott approval for access to Wisdom

All prospective Wisdom users must obtain the approval of their local Caldicott Guardian before they can be given access. The authorisation covers Wisdom and all of the systems that are linked to it (BQBV, Mental Health, Navigator and HEAT). Once authorisation is granted, the user will be provided with their own username and password.

We will require a signed Wisdom User Authorisation Form Download Word file [77kb] to be completed before access to Wisdom can be granted. The completed form should be e-mailed to your local Caldicott Guardian who can then authorise the requested access by a covering email to ISD at nss.isdWisdom@nhs.net however we will still require to receive a hard copy of the authorisation by post or fax (address / fax details are provided on the form).

Specification

You will need to be on NHSnet and have Adobe Flashplayer installed on your computer in order to access Wisdom. As Wisdom is a web-based system, there is no requirement for additional software or set up. There is, however, a minimum specification that needs to be met in order for the system to function correctly. Most computers running Windows XP will be able to open Wisdom. Some users may find that they may have to alter some of their Internet Explorer settings to access Wisdom. If you have any questions about the compatibility of your pc or the Internet Explorer setting required, please email nss.isdWisdom@nhs.net and we can send you a list of requirements.

User Support

A user guide has been developed to support the use of Wisdom.
