The Data Recording Advisory Service (DRAS) have begun work to support ISD’s Data modernisation plans, specifically the work to modernise Scottish Morbidity Records led by Elaine Strange and Clare Harper.
A ‘proof of concept’ project was initiated following the Health & Social Care Information Intelligence strategy stakeholder consultation with NHS Ayrshire & Arran.  The project aims to demonstrate potential benefits of incremental feeding of SMR data. i.e. national information available quicker, providing more timely output.
DRAS have created a Compound Healthcare Headings (CHH) SMR Trickle bundle to support the initial proposal.
The proposal sets out to take the current SMR00 record and consider how interim SMR data extraction(s) can be taken from PAS/PMS systems.
The SMR Trickle bundle identifies the full SMR record  along with the data elements required to be extracted at each subsequent trickle stage (aligning to the data definition/ standard/ rules associated with each data element.  It is envisaged that there will be two ‘packets’ of SMR00 data sent from NHS Ayrshire & Arran to ISD on a daily basis. The first packet contains patient referral information, the second contains patient attendance detail.  Provisional diagnosis and/or proposed procedure may be recorded in packet one and actual diagnosis and procedure carried out will be recorded in packet two.
