Terminology Browsers
Terminology browsers allow the user to search electronically for codes and terms. This method is used when the number of terms and codes are too great to be easily or practically searched for in books.
NHS Read Browser
The de facto standard for Read codes in Scotland is 5-Byte Version 2 Read Codes (Scottish). Connecting for Health also support other versions of Read: UK READ Codes Version 2 and Clinical terms (The Read Codes) Version 3 which are used in England.
Please note - when downloading the Read browser NHS Scotland staff should choose the option offering the Scottish variation.
The NHS Read Browser (containing 5-Byte Version 2 Read Codes (Scottish)) can be downloaded by registering at Connecting for Health's TRUD site. The browser contents are updated every six months (April and October). Once registered Connecting for Health will e-mail details of the updates at the appropriate times.
SNOMED CT Browser
A number of SNOMED-CT browsers are available free of charge. Some are available from the UK Terminology Centre on the Connecting for Health website.
The SNOMED-CT content is also available to users in the UK to download in file format. For further details please register at the NHS TRUD download site.
