Age and Sex Breakdown of Dentists
There was a slight decrease in the number of principal dentists in post this year. Previous years show the number of dentists to be increasing. The proportion of male and female dentists has been fairly constant over the last five years.
Number of principal dentists; year ending March 2000 
Female dentists tend to be younger than male dentists, with 71% of female dentists aged 39 or under compared with only 43% of male dentists.
