The available information includes trends at Scotland, Regional and Health Board level and analyses by gender and age group. Latest available figures are either 31st March 2006 or 30th September 2006.  Census dates (30th September or 31st March) and publication dates are clearly marked in each section.

At 30th September 2006 there were 157,986 staff in NHSScotland. The chart below gives a profile of the NHSScotland workforce by staff group.  Almost half (42.4%) of staff are in the Nursing & Midwifery staff group.
