Choosing the right internet browser
To view this site in the best possible way we recommend that PC users install the latest version of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox; for MAC users we recommend you install the latest version of Safari.
Navigating around the site
Main areas
Links to the 5 main areas of the site can be found within the header area at the top of each page and also in the footer of each page: Home, Information and Statistics, News and Releases, A-Z Subject Index and About ISD.
Home is where you can find, amongst other things, links to our latest statistical publication notices, Media Monitoring and an option for registering as a customer of the site. You'll also find links at the top of the right hand column to pages which help with searching the site .
Information and Statistics provides access to data analyses. An initial list of topics provides some information on the main Programmes within ISD. There's also some advice on requesting information.
News and Releases gives information on recent and forthcoming statistical releases. There is also an archive section for historical releases.
A-Z Subject Index is an A-Z index of the content of the site. There's also a link to a site map which shows the structure of the site.
About ISD contains information about our organisation, how to find us, careers in ISD and information on Confidentiality, National Statistics etc.
Searching
There is a search function available above the left hand menu on every site page and at the top of the right hand column on the homepage. Advice on how to search and on advanced search options can also be found via a link from the homepage.
Page menus
Down the left hand side of most pages you will see a menu. Click on an option to open a new page. The options vary from page to page are are designed to offer easy access to the main content areas of each topic area. Some menu items open up to show sub menus. These are designed to help you decide on the best route to take into our more detailed sections.
Glossary
The site Glossary offers explanations of terms used within this site. Links to it are available from our home page and from the bottom left hand corner of each page.
Data Dictionary
The Data Dictionary website is a one-stop shop for health and social care data definitions and standards. The Data Dictionary is managed by ISD Scotland and as new definitions and standards are agreed they are published on this site. Links to the Data Dictionary are available from the bottom left hand corner of each page and from the footer section on the homepage.

ISD has a dedicated Customer Support Desk which deals with all requests for information. You can email the desk at nss.CSD@.nhs.net or telephone it on 0131 275 7777. Your request will be registerd and will be passed on to an appropriate member of staff.
