The Scottish Breast Screening Programme (SBSP) Information System maintains an extensive data set holding information relating to each step as a woman moves through her screening episode. Comprehensive radiological, diagnostic and treatment information is held including areas such as:

Characteristics of screen detected lesions such as:

  • Grade
  • Size
  • Nodal involvement
  • Disease extent

Surgery

  • Type of surgical procedure
  • Localisation techniques
  • Lymph node procedures
  • Details of other forms of treatment

Radiography

  • Mammographic view performed
  • Exposure details

Cytology

  • Specimen type
  • Localisation technique

In 1999 the computer system used by the SBSP to issue call and recall invitations and store information on all appointments that are taken up was transferred over to a new Oracle based system.
