Immunisation uptake rates in groups of children as they age

In addition to tracking snapshots of immunisation uptake rates in children by 12 months and 24 months it is also possible to follow immunisation uptake in groups of children as they age. The charts below show the pattern of uptake of Diphtheria and MMR1 in several cohorts of children. Each line on the charts represents one cohort: a group of children all born during the same quarter. Each point on the line shows the proportion of children in the cohort immunised at that particular age.

  • Uptake rates are normally shown at the standard reporting ages (12 and 24 months). Presented are two charts, for Diphtheria and MMR1, showing that a significant number of children are immunised beyond these standard ages, which may increase overall uptake as time progresses. For example, by 24 months, the MMR1 uptake rate for children born in 2007 Q1 was 92.9%. Now, at age 36 months, the rate for these children has increased to 95.7%.
  • The pattern of uptake of diphtheria is very similar in all cohorts, remaining on average 97% of children at 12 months.

  • Uptake of MMR1 by 24 months for children born in the 1st quarter of 2008 is 93.5%. This is a decrease of 0.7 percentage points on the previous reporting quarter.
  • Uptake of MMR1 by 21 months for children born in the 2nd quarter of 2008 shows a rate of 91.8%, this is a decrease of 0.5 percentage points on the 1st quarter of 2008 at the same age.
