Women and Children?s Health Information Programme
Objectives 2008/09
- To continue development of the new Sexual Health Annual Report (STIs and Other Sexual Health Information (STIOSHI)
- To improve the completeness of current national maternity data (SMR02) - 'Every Birth Counts project'
- To develop the use of Scottish Birth Record (SBR) in Neonatal Units in order to incorporate neonatal data onto SBR and facilitate inter-disciplinary communication
- Contribute to development and delivery of the eHealth strategy for NHS Scotland through support for the implementation of the child and maternal health component of the electronic patient record and the adoption of national clinical data standards
Programme Summary
The Women and Children?s Health Information Programme covers a wide range of maternal and child health issues including:
- Pregnancy
- Births and babies
- Child health
- Sexual Health
The programme is also developing and implementing the SBR; a new web-based clinical data collection system. This project will support the development of an electronic health record in Scotland, particularly the elements that relate to maternal and child health.
The programme brings together related areas of work and the team are able to bring a wealth of experience to support service planning and delivery as well as patient care. Recently an anonymous linked dataset was developed that joins together the information of mothers and their babies. This will enable us to gain new insights in the causes and consequences of, for example, pre maturity and low birth weight.
