Unintentional Injuries
News and updates
This section on unintentional injuries has been updated on the 18 December 2007 in accordance with National Statistics protocols. Emergency hospital admissions have been updated to include data for financial year ending 31 March 2007. Data on deaths have also been updated for calendar year ending 31 December 2006. Our 'Statistical Publication Notice' explains some of the key points from this release. The background section provides more contextual information on unintentional injuries. This year, data has been added to the background section to show how the figures for Scotland compare with other European countries.
Two new topic areas have been added this year. The first focuses on data at Community Health Partnership (CHP) level for both children and adults where we have shown how the standardised rates of deaths and emergency hospital admissions compare at CHP level. The second new subject area presents data on deaths and emergency hospital admissions as a result of an assault by sharp object (usually a knife). Assaults by sharp object are presented in the unintentional injuries section as they are considered to be unintentional from the point of view of the victim. In this section we have looked at the trend in the number of deaths and emergency hospital admissions since 1998. We have also presented a breakdown of the 2006 data by geographic area, age, sex and day of admission.
The tables in the Interactive Information section have been updated and now provide information for the past six years, including data on emergency admissions for financial years ending 31 March 2002 to 2007 and deaths for calendar years ending 31 December 2001 to 2006. Four new tables have been added to this section to show the full breakdown of data at CHP level.
Please note that due to the inclusion of new tables, the table numbering is slightly different from previous releases.
