Hints & Tips
This section deals with the current selection procedures in use by the Information & Statistics Division (ISD), and contains information that should help you to understand theses procedures by a) illustrating the likely stages that you will go through during the recruitment process; b) assisting you make the most of your application for your future role in ISD and; c) clarifying the interview process.
We hope that you will find this section useful in your efforts to embark on a career with ISD. Whilst it should assist you, it does not present the answers...... you have to come up with those yourself.
Application
The first stage of every selection process requires that you complete and return an application form. This allows us to assess each applicant on the basis of their qualifications, experience and personal qualities.
When completing your Statement in Support of Application, bear in mind that it provides you with an opportunity to make yourself stand-out from other applicants by giving us an insight into your team-working, motivational and learning abilities.
Interview
Creating a good impression at your interview will require you to prepare well. Be ready to discuss further responses you have made on the application form. Investigate the Information Services (ISD), and the area to which you have applied. (You may find theAbout ISD section of this website helpful).
Research into the organisation, and an awareness of current issues pertinent to the organisation will also help you to differentiate yourself from many other applicants.
Interview questions will regularly require you to recall real situations that you have experienced. Theses questions are designed to provide interviewers with a better understanding of your experiences and, more importantly, your contribution, behaviour and learning from those situations. Again, preparation will prove helpful to you. Selecting occasions where you have demonstrated your strengths, and produced good results directly from your contribution, will help you to further differentiate yourself from other candidates. For some positions you may be required to give a short presentation. Whilst you will be given advance notice of the subject to be covered, the intention is for the panel to assess your presentation skills, not necessarily whether you have an in depth knowledge of the subject.
Our interviews are structured to ensure that all applicants are given equal opportunity, and additionally enables us to make objective and accurate selection decisions.
