What information do you get when you apply for a job?
When we receive your request for an application form, we will send you an application pack containing: a job description; an application form; general information about annual leave and other conditions of service; an equal opportunities form and; a disability form.
Will you acknowledge receipt of my completed application form?
Information Services (ISD) does not acknowledge receipt of application forms, however every applicant will be advised, in writing, of whether or not they have been selected for interview.
If you are selected for interview you will be given a minimum of seven days notice about your interview. The letter that you receive will show the date, time and venue of your interview, along with the names and job titles of the members of the interview panel. You will also receive an Occupational Health Unit questionnaire and directions to the venue for your interview.
What format will the interview take?
This will depend upon the post applied for. Most interviews will involve you answering questions from an interview panel. For some senior positions you may also be asked to give a brief presentation to the panel.
Should I take anything with me to the interview?
The letter inviting you to attend for interview, will give details of what you should bring to the with you. However, this will usually be copies of any qualifications that are referred to in your application.
Where will interviews be held?
At the present time, almost all interviews will take place at Gyle Square in Edinburgh, or Seaforth House in Glasgow. However, you will be advised in your invitation to attend for interview of the exact location.
What are the timescales from closing date to appointment?
We endeavour to advise applicants whether they have been selected for interview within two weeks of the closing date. In most cases an appointment will be made within four weeks of the closing date, and, where possible, you will be advised whether or not you have been appointed within two working days of your interview.
Where will I be based?
At present the majority of the Information Services (ISD) staff are based at Gyle Square in Edinburgh, or Seaforth House in Glasgow, however there are some staff who are based in locations throughout Scotland.
How much can I expect to be paid and what benefits will I get?
The salary will of course depend on the position applied for, qualifications and experience. The salary range applicable to that post will be clearly shown within the job advertisement.
In a full leave year (1st April to 31st March), for full time posts, you will receive a minimum of 20 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays. Additionally the Information Services (ISD) operates a flexi-time system.
