Scottish Public Health Observatory (ScotPHO) Programme

The aim of the ScotPHO Programme is to contribute to health improvement in Scotland through supporting the development of routinely available public health information, as well as taking a lead on determining Scotland?s future health information needs, and to develop innovations in public health information. 

Objectives 2008/09

  • Further develop and improve the content of the ScotPHO website new sections: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Liver disease, Prison health, Asthma, Rural Health, Injuries
  • Increased awareness of public health issues at small area level in Scotland for local planning purposes
  • Management of the smoking cessation system
  • Develop health inequalities tracking tool: Provide a practical tool which will enable exploration of the reduction or eradication of specific causes of death

Programme Summary

The ScotPHO Programme was developed to:

  • Provide a support service for those involved in health improvement in Scotland
  • Work alongside others involved with routine public health information in Scotland to develop a co-ordinated and comprehensive public health information provision via the ScotPHO collaboration
  • Provide a focus for new routine health information development where gaps exist
