SNOMED CT Browser
SNOMED data files are routinely distributed to all NHS licence holders via Connecting for Health on a six monthly basis. Users in Scotland are now able to view the SNOMED content by accessing our on-line SNOMED browser. This facility can also be used to browse ICD-10, OPCS4 and Read code content.
The browser is available to all NHS email account holders.

A quick start guide and step by step presentation are available on how to use the browser and we can also provide basic training in the use of the tools. This can be arranged on an adhoc basis by contacting the helpdesk.
If you are experiencing technical problems logging onto the browser please contact the ATOS helpdesk, 0845 957 2700.
Below is an outline on the terms of use of the SNOMED browser and SNOMED content for NHS in Scotland. If you require further clarification on any of the points please contact the Helpdesk.
SNOMED CT AND HLI LICENSING ARRANGEMENTS WITHIN NHS SCOTLAND
Atos Origin has, on behalf of NHS Scotland, concluded an agreement with HLI which enables access to SNOMED CT.
The broad-brush summary of the position in relation to third-party use of the HLI product, under the Terms of the Agreements between Atos Origin and HLI, and between Atos Origin and NHS Scotland, is this:
Where a third party (that is, non-NHS) is developing an NHS Crown Copyright application for use by NHS users in Scotland, they will have the right, through the terms of the Agreement with HLI, to incorporate the HLI Language Engine product (along with content sets) within the application.
This means HLI Run-Time software being integrated with the Application software.
The third party will be able to use the HLI Development software (tools and other portions of the HLI Software that are used to model content and/or integrate the Run-Time Software into a NHS Application).
Where a third party (that is, non-NHS) is developing their own application (whether for use by NHS users in Scotland or for resale), they must enter an Agreement of their own with HLI, to incorporate the HLI Language Engine product (along with content sets) within the application.
Where a third party develops or distributes, on a commercial basis, software for the healthcare industry, that third party must purchase its own development licence from HLI to use the Development Software and/or integrate its own software with the HLI Software.
It is a mandatory pre-requisite of any third-party development work on integrating the HLI product and content sets into an application that the third party sign appropriate confidentiality agreements with HLI.
Distribution of HLI Run-Time software within an NHS Crown Copyright application will be subject to sub-licence. The HLI Run-Time software must not be distributed as a stand-alone product.
As far as SNOMED CT is concerned, there is a pan-UK NHS Agreement (a National Government Agreement) with CAP which makes SNOMED CT end-user licences available to all NHS organisations and related organisations.
So in the case of the NHS Crown Copyright applications, the licence for use of SNOMED CT within such applications is currently covered by this National Government Agreement with CAP.
In the case of third-party applications for resale, the developer must enter its own licence agreement with CAP.
