Information Governance Programme

The Information Governance (IG) Programme is being developed to provide support to all NHSScotland staff to manage information safely and effectively, to agreed and consistent high standards.

Objectives 2008/09

  • To maintain constructive supportive networks - building on existing arrangements
  • To collaborate with Scottish Government Health Department , NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) , and the Primary Care Community on the development of information governance standards for the primary and community care settings
  • To support NHS QIS and the NHS Boards to monitor the IG standards
  • To raise awareness within NHS organisations of their responsibility to ensure all staff receive appropriate training in Information Governance

Programme Summary

Information Governance is a framework for handling all information in a confidential and secure manner to appropriate ethical, legal and quality standards.

The focus is on setting standards and providing NHS organisations with the tools to meet the standards.

The programme aims to help NHS organisations be consistent in the way they handle information and to avoid duplication of effort.
