Information Governance
Programme Summary
The programme is a framework for handling all information in a confidential and secure manner to appropriate ethical, legal and quality standards. It is fundamental to delivering health services effectively, particularly as we move towards the use of electronic systems.
The programme aims to help NHS organisations be consistent in the way they handle information and to avoid duplication of effort. This is delivered through the following main areas of work:
- Communications & Networks — Maintaining and extending supportive and constructive networks for NHS Scotland IG Practitioners through regular national meetings, an annual IG conference and facilitation of national IG practitioner fora.
- IG Standards & Toolkit — Supporting the development and publication by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland of NHS Scotland Information Governance Standards and supporting Boards in self assessment of their performance against these standards using the electronic IG toolkit.
- Education & Training — Working with NHS Education Scotland and NHS Boards to develop a range of educational materials and tools which can be utilised by NHS Boards and contractors to raise awareness and train staff in relation to IG.
- Knowledge Base — Supporting the development and maintenance of the eLibrary IG portal as a central knowledge source on IG for NHS Scotland.
- National IG Framework — Providing support to the Scottish Government for the development and review of national IG policy, guidance, Codes of Practice, etc.
