National Medicines Utilisation Unit [NMUU]
The NMUU was set up in 2005 to help collect and disseminate high quality information on the use of medicines across NHS Scotland. It consists of several different strands of work. These are:
-
Collaboration with the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) to monitor the uptake and impact of SMC advice on prescribing of new medicines.
-
Development of a specification for a hospital medicines utilisation database, to identify how medicines are used in hospitals, and allow linkage between different information sources.
-
Investigation of antibiotic utilisation data from primary / secondary care and linkage to antibiotic resistance.
-
Development of a strategy for secondary uses of data arising from the ePharmacy programme.
-
Development of a pharmaceutical care services plan resource tool kit with SEHD and Grampian NHS Board.
