Introduction to Data Development

What is the Data Development Programme?

Our role is to:

  • analyse and identify gaps in current national information submitted to Information Services Division (ISD) e.g. Scottish Morbidity Records (SMRs), ISD(S)1s*
  • research and develop ways of capturing data not currently collected
  • explore data collection methods within other national and international health services

Our primary focus is setting up and carrying out projects tailored to each data gap area e.g. Community Nursing.

How we fill these gaps

Working with our stakeholders and other parts of ISD, we aim to fill the gaps in information supply through the development of data collection tools like:

  • audits
  • census
  • monthly management information (MMI)
  • questionnaires
  • sample tools
  • surveys
  • systems development
