ISD endeavours to keep pace with the changing ways, range and scope of service delivery and clinical practice and reflect in the development of NHS data. The following summarises recent achievements and data development work underway:
Nursing
Following recommendations from several policies, reports and projects ISD's Data Development Programme and the Scottish Government's eHealth Programme have been working together to develop a way to capture and present information highlighting the breadth and diversity of work carried out by community nurses and their support teams. The Community Nursing Team Census is a one day data capture exercise which aims to inform the wider eHealth agenda.- ISD's National Clinical Dataset Development Programme (NCDDP) have developed community nurse core standards for referral, discharge and generic summary. General assessment, continence and palliative care standards are under development.
- Since the recording of procedures on SMR00 by outpatient nurse-led clinics was made mandatory in April 2003, the data that ISD has been receiving from the service has been patchy and does not reflect the magnitude of work carried out by nurses in outpatient nurse-led clinics. The project - Outpatient Nurse-led Activity in collaboration with Centre for Change & Innovation was undertaken to understand the activities that are carried out in a selection of nurse-led outpatient services in providing care for the patient during their journey. The following report, Nurse-Led Outpatient Activity Project was published in September 2005.
