Unintentional Injuries

Unintentional injury is one of the main causes of death and is the most common cause of emergency hospital admissions in children aged under 15.

During 2000-2005 approximately 1 in 12 childhood deaths were due to an unintentional injury.  In 2006 this figure has decreased slightly to approximately 1 in 13.

Information for children focuses on four main age groups where the type of injury reflects the child's state of development, changing perception of danger, types of activity and levels of responsibility.  Approximately 1 in 5 emergency hospital admissions in children is as a result of an unintentional injury.

Information for children is broken down by the following types of analyses.

Age and sex breakdown
NHS Board and deprivation
Community Health Partnerships
Road Traffic Accidents
Top 10 diagnoses
