Podiatry Information Project

Another development is the Podiatry Information Project which was undertaken by ISD (in collaboration with The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Scottish Faculty of Management Group) from March 2000 - June 2004.  An extended pilot was held for a 3-month period in 3 Primary Care Trust areas towards the end of 2003.  Podiatrists collected information on all face-to-face contacts with patients, generating approximately 15,000 contacts.  Information was collected on:

  • Interventions undertaken by podiatrists e.g. debridement
  • Podiatry problems e.g. callus
  • Associated problems/risk factors patients had e.g. diabetes

The report details work to develop and pilot information categories for podiatry, initially hoped to replace the current national chiropody return ISD(8). The report can be downloaded by clicking here link to an adobe pdf file.   For further information, or to receive a hard copy of the report, please contact Fiona Black on 0131 275 6065.

The categories and definitions developed in the pilot have since been incorporated into the eCHIP Development of Care Programmes for Podiatry (being taken forward by Margaret Hastings).
