Unintentional Injuries
Injuries in adults (Home injuries) (Page 1 of 3)
Unintentional injuries in the home account for over a quarter of all emergency admissions as a result of an unintentional injury for adults aged 15 and over. Injuries in the home include falls and poisonings (see
table 3).
Table 13 and
figure 6 show that the 75 and over age group have the highest number of emergency admissions to hospital (6,538 discharges, 50.4%). In this age group, over three and a half times as many females are admitted than males. A possible reason for this is that females generally live longer than males.

Please click on the above chart for relating tables and notes.
In the younger age groups, 15-24 and 25-44, males have more discharges than females. The pattern then changes to females having more discharges than males.
Table 14 and
figure 7 show the number of deaths as a result of an unintentional injury in the home by age group and sex. Males have a greater number of deaths as a result of an unintentional injury than females in all age groups except the 75 years and over age group.
