Frequently Asked Questions
Removal from Waiting List
If a patient attends an appointment and then is subsequently removed from the waiting list what date the should be recorded as the removal date?
The date that the patient attended is when the decision was taken to remove them from the waiting list, therefore the date of removal should equal the appointment date. [Added 10 April 2007]
When should I use 'Removal reason - 59' Transferred to another NHS Board area? (WT28 Reason for removal from list)?
Code 59 should only be used where the patient, and the responsibility for their wait, is being transferred to a different Waiting List. If the patient's wait is still your responsibility, you will require to record, and provide, all information on the patient's wait. Examples where Code 59 should be used is where the patient is being moved to a different Consultant at a different Hospital. It is also important to note that if Code 59 is being used, it is imperative that the original information on the patient's wait is recorded on the new Waiting List entry, including the original date placed on waiting list,if this doesn't happen then patients will be incorrectly excluded from national waiting time analyses. When we refer patients to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital or to a private hospital, what do we record under WT28 'Reason for removal from list'?
In these circumstances you would still be responsible for the waiting list so under WT28 you should record 'Removal reason - 10'. If a Board has a particular reason why they cannot do this they should contact ISD to discuss. [Added 20 April 2008]
