Information on GP performers
Number of GP performers, by performer type and NHS board
The table below shows the number of GP performers (all types) by NHS board.
Note: NHS Argyll & Clyde was dissolved on 31st March 2006. With effect from 1st April 2006, the council area of Argyll & Bute is included in a now enlarged NHS Highland area. Meanwhile, the rest of the former NHS Argyll & Clyde area is now under the responsibility of an enlarged NHS Greater Glasgow (now renamed NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde). The table below shows the information by these newly reconfigured NHS boards. Comparative tables in excel show the information for 2004 and 2005 with the old configuration of boards, whilst the comparative table for 2006 has the new configuration.
Number of GPs 1,2, by GP performer type and NHS board; as at 30 September 2007
Headcount

1 Excludes Performer locums.
2 For a GP to work in an NHS Board, legislation requires that they must first be registered on that Board's Performer List. Each individual GP performer is counted once per NHS Board that they work in, even if they occupy more than one post within the Board.
3 The Scotland total comprises actual headcount of GPs, rather than GP posts therefore it may not equal the sum of the different types of GP.
