The CHD and Stroke Programme's main aim is to improve patient care by providing data to support the delivery of patient care, service planning and audit. The programme is working to develop national databases covering all patients diagnosed with CHD or stroke and the treatments they receive across the whole of NHSScotland - from primary care through to diagnosis, cardiac surgery and rehabilitation.

The aim of this programme of work is to help develop the best forms of care and service improvements through the effective use of information. Currently, we are focused on two key areas: information to support Community Health Partnerships (CHPs); and developing a risk prediction tool to identify those patients who would benefit most from preventive interventions in the community.

The Equality and Diversity Information Programme (EDIP) deals with the collection of personal information from patients/carers; ensures the NHS in Scotland is treating people fairly; and ensures everyone is benefiting from NHS services irrespective of age, gender, race, religion/faith belief, sexual orientation, disability or sensory impairment.

The Gpass Users' Group is a non-profit organisation, independent of Gpass. Membership is made up of GP practices, and the Group's aim is to keep Practice staff informed about national developments in both Gpass and the raft of eHealth programmes. The quarterly Newsletter provides up-to-date information on Gpass and national initiatives as well as offering help and advice on how to make better use of Gpass and other software tools.

The Improving Mental Health Information Programme (known also as iMHIP ) has been in existence within ISD for over 5 years (since August 2001). The programme was formed to improve the fragmented and poorly developed mental health information within Scottish care settings, in order to help develop service provision and benefit overall service user/client care. The programme team is made up from people throughout ISD with a wide and varied range of skills, expertise and enthusiasms.

The newsletter aims to publicise the work and progress of the NHSScotland Information Governance Programme. Information Governance is a framework which brings together all the statutory requirements, standards and best practice that apply to the handling of information. The work encompasses areas of legislation including the Data Protection Act 1998, the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and also a number of initiatives such as information security, the Caldicott Framework, records management, information quality assurance, and confidentiality.

ISD Library's Media Monitoring service aims to provide updates on healthcare issues which are being reported in newspapers and on the web. We aim to send out our updates twice a day, by 10.30 in the morning and 4.00 in the afternoon. We also provide a summary of weekend news by 1.00 every Monday lunchtime.

From 1 January 2008 New Ways of Defining and Measuring Waiting Times has introduced a significant change in how the NHSScotland collects and defines waiting times, and also how waiting lists are clinically and administratively managed. The New Ways e-newsletter provides a regular update on progress, to support those implementing New Ways guidance and systems.

This publication provides information, issues and instructions that have an impact on the practices and clinicians involved in the Practice Team Information (PTI) Project. PTI is a system for the collection of primary care data from the general practice team, including General Practitioners, practice and community nurses. This system developed from Continuous Morbidity Recording (CMR) which collected data from contacts between GP and patient only.

The Scottish Birth Record (SBR) is a web-based system developed on the NHSNet. It provides a single, transferable, electronic record for all births and neonatal care, including readmissions, in Scotland. SBR's key aims are: to improve clinical communication; promote audit and clinical governance; to provide detailed, accurate, timely data; and to provide the ability to register newborns on CHI shortly after birth.

The Scottish Intensive Care Society Audit Group (SICSAG) newsletter updates staff and interested parties on ongoing work and progress of the audit. SICSAG was set up in 1995 to monitor and improve the quality of care given to patients admitted to general Intensive Care Units (ICU) in Scotland. This has now been expanded to include patients in High Dependency Units (HDU). SICSAG joined ISD in October 2006.
