Customer Support Desk
If you are experiencing problems accessing New Ways data through Business Objects (in particular looging on and accessing the BO environment) and you are confident that this is not a local issue then please contact the ISD Customer Support Desk on 0131 275 7777 in the first instance. This will allow any issues to be logged quickly and raised at the correct priority.
Data Errors and Warnings
During the last few weeks of 2007, the main focus of New Ways development has shifted from PAS implementations to the extraction and validation of data. It may be of value to you and your New Ways team to consider what type of errors are being commonly encountered. The document 'examples of data problems' is by no means comprehensive but it highlights those data items where you too may experience issues.
Each been classified as errors or warnings, although, as with everything in the New Ways programme, the arrival of real live data is identifying new issues every day which have to be addressed. Therefore these categories of errors or warnings may change with this experience, but we think sight of them now will be of value to you.

XML schema and data submission requirements - letter issued 4 October 2007
Initial work with sites has highlighted some issues with one part of the XML schema, that was circulated on 28 February 2007. As a result of this it has been necessary to make some slight changes to that schema. These changes are needed to take account of differences between Oracle and Microsoft in implementation of the schema. Any sites that have provided sample extracts in the previous format, where there have been no issues, the previous XML schema may be retained. A letter was issued by e-mail on 4 October 2007 to New Ways leads, NHS Board IT contacts and system suppliers to update on XML schema and to provide clarification on data submission requirements.
The XML schema at 4 October 2007 are below:

New Ways Data Required and Extraction Specification

Specification of data required and its extraction 28 February 2007 Version 1.1a
This specification supercedes Version 1.1 dated 13 February 2007. Version 1.1a corrects a typographical error and adds further clarification to WT19 and WT25(1).
In future, should an issue result in a substantive change to the specification it will be managed through a formal change control procedure but as it stands, this specification (Version 1.1a) is final and is the statement of what is required to deliver New Ways functionality.
