Interpreting the Table
The vertical axis to the left lists the ICD10/OPCS4 codes, which had been recorded as the Main Condition/Main Operation in the SMR01 records. The horizontal axis along the top lists the codes, which ISD found should have been recorded in these records (i.e. the true codes).
Each table contains the records from the sample which have a code from the particular group recorded as the SMR01 Main Condition/Main Operation.
| Accuracy | (the percentage of cases where the Main Condition or Main Operation coded recorded on the SMR01 hit the group target (number of correctly recorded codes / number of recorded codes) * 100 = % accurate |
| Over-recorded | (where the group codes should not have been recorded) recorded codes - correctly recorded codes = number codes over-recorded |
| Under-recorded | (where the group code should have been recorded) true codes - correctly recorded codes = number codes under-recorded |
| Sensitivity | (the number of times the group was correctly recorded as a % of the true number of times it should have been recorded) correctly recorded codes + under-recorded codes = true number required codes (correctly recorded codes / true codes) * 100 = % sensitivity |
| Completeness | (the net balance of recorded, under-recorded & over-recorded as a proportion of the true number of codes required) (correctly recorded codes + over-recorded codes) / (correctly recorded codes + under-recorded codes) * 100 = % completeness |
