Managing Data Quality
SMR Timeliness
Following recommendations outlined in the report "Strategic Review of Health Care and Statistics in NHS Scotland", the target for SMR submission to ISD has been revised from 3 months to 6 weeks (42 days after discharge/attendance). This target is endorsed by SGHWD and NHS Board CEO's have been advised to work towards meeting it.
To help both ISD and NHS Boards measure progress towards this target, charts have been produced to show the timeliness of data submitted by each board to the national database over the most recent 24 months. The timeliness charts measure data submitted within 42 days (6 weeks) after the end of month of discharge/clinic and also data that falls outwith the target. Estimated backlog figures are included as an additional series.
On opening the spreadsheet for the appropriate SMR type, select the worksheet for board.

The timeliness charts are currently published at NHS Board level but if timeliness information is required at location/hospital level, please contact the Data Monitoring Team.
