NHSScotland Workforce Information
Trend
The change in both collection and presentation of workforce data due to changes to staff groupings under Agenda for Change has inevitably meant that the amount of historical trend analysis of data is limited, though still available for some high level staff groupings.
Future workforce data will more clearly illustrate the distribution of the workforce reflecting modern service delivery. The categorisation of many non medical staff groups is considerably improved from the previous system (based on the Whitley pay structures) allowing better description and analyses of the workforce both now and in the future.
Trend data for the medical and dental workforce (excluding medical and dental support) has continued. For all other staff, trend information has been provided where possible.
There are significant challenges in producing trend data in light of such a profound change in the source of data. To add clarity to this, an outline has been produced mapping what trend information is possible. This is presented by the new agenda for change staff groupings as well as being presented in the old Whitley format .
The chart below shows ten year trend information for medical staff (excluding GPs), nursing and midwifery staff, support services staff and allied health professions staff. Note that figures in this chart are headcount. Staff figures have increased for all these staff groups in the year between 30th September 2006 and 30th September 2007.
