NHSScotland Workforce Information
All other staff
This section provides a summary of emergency services, administrative services and support services staff employed in NHSScotland. Figures are sourced from the Scottish Workforce Information Standard System (SWISS) and describe those staff assimilated to the above Agenda for Change job families, and those staff not yet assimilated but where an emergency services, administrative services or support services staff group has been identified from their current payscale.
This is the first time that these staff groups have been presented by the new Agenda for Change job families, sub job families and bands. Staff in post figures for each job family are presented by band, age group, gender, contract type and NHS region and board.
Throughout figures are presented as headcount or Whole Time Equivalent (WTE). Whole Time Equivalent adjusts headcount staff numbers to take account of part time staff.
At 30th September 2007 NHSScotland employed 3,529.8 (WTE) emergency services staff, 24,736.7 (WTE) administrative services staff and 13,961.9 (WTE) support services staff.
The chart below (WTE) shows that whilst there is little difference between the number of males and females working in a support services setting, females are more likely to work part time (females - 41.7%, males - 8.2%), compared with males who are more likely to work full time (males - 37.9%, females - 12.1%). More males work within emergency services (65.5% full time and 4.8% part time), compared to females (25.5% full time and 4.2% part time). This is not the case for administrative services where more females (56.0% full time and 25.3% part time) work in this setting compared to males (17.5% full time and 1.2% part time).
