Community Nurses Measure Up A national one day census, developed by nurses for nurses Thursday 24th April 2008
|
The nurse census is a large project involving an estimated 8,500 nursing staff. In order to manage this work a Project Steering Group was established to discuss and find solutions to any issues and risks identified as well as guiding the project in line with the original scope.
Community Nursing staff have been involved in the entire development phase of the census. As the census is about nurses it makes sense to have them involved and contributing from the outset.
We have met with many nurses through our Reference Groups and Awareness sessions and have obtained a great deal of nursing input into the development of the census questions and also in understanding what type of information nurses want to see reported back from the census. One of the most frequent concerns raised was about the amount of unplanned nursing activity which takes place and the invisibility of this care; a question reflecting this has subsequently been incorporated within the census.
For more information on how nurses have been involved in the development process see the page "Working Towards the Census".
On the 30th January 2008 Paul Martin, Chief Nursing Director, contacted the Directors of Nursing and asked for their support and assistance in disseminating information about the census. Directors of Nursing were asked to provide names of key contacts (i.e. each CHP's lead nurse) in each health board.
The CHP leads were then e-mailed seeking their assistance. Details of this e-mail are available: CHP Assistance
.
CHP leads are communicated with regularly advising them of up-dates to the website and details of training sessions etc. and this will continue to happen.
As mentioned on all these web pages, the nurse census has been developed by nurses for nurses. We have received a great deal off input and support from everyone we have spoken with and contacted.
The Chief Nursing Officer Directorate (CNOD) - Paul Martin is also very supportive of this project and has written to all Nurse Directors asking for their support and commitment.
Here is the letter the was sent to all the Nurse Directors on the 9th April 2008: CNOD Letter to Nurse Directors
If you wish to know more please contact the Census Support Team or contact your local CHP lead.
