General Practice - National Primary Care Workforce Survey 2009
Introduction
This page presents results from the January 2009 National Primary Care Workforce Planning Survey, which was designed to capture aggregate information about the GP, practice nurse and healthcare assistant workforce in Scotland.
A summary of the results is available in our Statistical Publication Notice .
The results include information on:-
-
an estimation of the weekly numbers of sessions worked by GPs (a GP's week is defined in terms of sessions rather than hours, with a working day generally being comprised of two or sometimes three sessions)
-
headcounts and whole time equivalent (WTE) numbers of practice nurses and healthcare assistants/phlebotomists
-
use of locum GP time
-
use of extra nurse time
-
known vacancies for these professional groups at a fixed census date
The information reported through these pages is based largely on the survey data received from 838 Scottish general practices, which between them provide primary care services to approximately 87% of Scotland's registered patient population.
The main survey report and further results are available below. In addition, further information on the GP workforce in Scotland and the practices that they work in, is published regularly on our main GPs, practices and practice population page .
