Welcome to our Heart Disease & Stroke Programme web pages. This section provides information on cerebrovascular disease, transient ischaemic attack and stroke.
This November 2011 publication is a partial update to the web content that was published previously in February 2011. Topic Areas that have been updated in November 2011 include GP Prescribing and Mortality. The remaining Topic Areas have not been updated since the February 2011 release and future publications are subject to review.
Driving this amendment to the content of the Programme's web pages is a change in our focus to issues of Quality Improvement, working with NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland (formerly NHS Quality Improvement Scotland) on the Heart Disease Improvement Programme of work, including the national heart disease audits.
A summary of the latest publication is available and detailed tables of information are accessible for different Topic Areas such as deprivation, hospital activity, prescribing and mortality.
Although we are a single Programme dealing with coronary heart disease and stroke information, the two are separated on ISD's web site to highlight the distinction between the two in terms of their epidemiology and service provision.
We have also traditionally included information on other forms of cardiovascular disease and this is a reflection of the broader remit of the Scottish Government's 2009 strategy Better Heart Disease & Stroke Care Action Plan
