These changes include the addition of an 'employments' count and revision to the headcount measure.

Over the past year there has been an increasing demand from the public and key stakeholders to have more frequent workforce information reports made available for national use. In response to this, it has been agreed by the ISD Workforce Statistics Steering Group, and ISD Workforce Technical Reference group that workforce statistics should be published on a quarterly basis and this is supported by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing. The quarterly publication cycle will also support the refresh of the Workforce Planning Framework that provides a methodology to help Boards focus how their plans will deliver the three quality ambitions. Including what the impact on future services will be and identifying workforce solutions for the future measured against the agreed indicators.

A letter to publicise this new 'NHSSCOTLAND Workforce national statistics quarterly reporting cycle' Download Word file [214kb] was issued to all NHS Boards during March 2011.

In January 2008 the information presented in these web pages changed to reflect the introduction of Agenda for Change. This has resulted in significant challenges in producing trend data in light of such a profound change in the source of data. To add clarity to this, an outline has been produced, mapping what trend information is possible. This is presented by the new agenda for change Download Excel file [240KB] staff groupings as well as being presented in the old Whitley format Download Excel file [75KB].

During July 2008 Medical and Dental information was migrated from the MEDMAN web based system to the Scottish Workforce Information Standard System (SWISS). This alignment provided the opportunity to capture all NHSScotland staff in post information in the one system, which has resulted in more robust information being captured and reported.
